impact.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Book Review<\/strong><br \/>Book reviews are formal evaluations of notable books recently published. Authors must inform the <em>Ottawa Law Review<\/em> if their submissions relate to any prior work.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Additionally, the <em>Ottawa Law Review<\/em> only considers exclusively submitted material that is not simultaneously under consideration by any other publication.<\/p><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><strong>Plagiarism<\/strong><\/h4><p>It is the author\u2019s responsibility to comply with the University of Ottawa\u2019s policy on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uottawa.ca\/current-students\/academic-regulations-explained\/academic-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">academic fraud<\/a>. The\u00a0<em>Ottawa Law Review\u00a0<\/em>strictly adheres to this policy.<\/p><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4>\u00a0<\/h4><h4><strong>Anonymity<\/strong><\/h4><p>The <em>Ottawa Law Review<\/em> considers submissions anonymously, without regard to the author\u2019s identity, institutional affiliation, prior publications, credentials, or previous submissions.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>To facilitate an anonymous peer-review process, no identifying information may appear in the submission, including credentials, biographical information, acknowledgements, or references\/citations to the author\u2019s previous works, that may identify him or her as the author of the submission.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The Editors-in-Chief (Articles) and Submissions Manager are the only members of the Editorial Board who has knowledge of the identity of the author. The Senior Board first reads the piece and decides whether to select it for the evaluation process.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Evaluation &amp; Acceptance<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When a submission is selected for evaluation, the\u00a0<em>Ottawa Law Review<\/em>\u00a0obtains a minimum of two independent assessments from peer reviewers with expertise on the legal topic at issue.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to style, organization, persuasiveness, coherence, conciseness, clarity,\u00a0<em>etc<\/em>., both the Senior Board and the peer reviewers evaluate the substance of the submission based on the following criteria:<\/p><h6>\u00a0<\/h6><ul><li>Does the article contain a clear idea or argument as its thesis?<\/li><li>Does the article seriously consider opposing arguments?<\/li><li>Does the article make a significant contribution to existing literature in the field?<\/li><li>Is the idea or argument discussed in a novel manner?<\/li><li>Are the supporting citations current, thorough, and accurate?<\/li><li>Does the article lay a foundation for further debate?<\/li><li>Is the subject of the article relevant to the legal community?<\/li><\/ul><h6 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/h6><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aided the peer reviewer\u2019s evaluations, a majority vote of the Senior Board determines the outcome, with each Board member able to vote to accept the submission for publication, accept it with conditions, or reject it altogether. Articles are rarely accepted without the need for further changes; conditions are usually added.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Editing &amp; Publication<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the <em>Ottawa Law Review<\/em> relies on its team of dedicated student editors, its editing cycles align with the academic year, from September to April. Submissions received in the early Spring are edited during the Fall semester, while those submitted in the late Summer are edited during the Winter semester. Pieces are published shortly after each semester, with the entire process, from submission to publication, generally taking around 10
